The Fred J Taylor Award.
The Angling Trust, in conjunction with The CLA Game Fair, is honouring Fred. J. Taylor, MBE, angler and writer, who died in 2008 with this annual award.
Previous recipients include Peter Rolfe for his work over nearly four decades studying and conserving crucian carp, a species which has suffered a dramatic decline in numbers due to destruction of its habitat and hybridisation with feral goldfish and other carp; and the Avon Roach Project in 2011 whose mission is to return a self-sustaining population of one of the country’s most enigmatic species of fish to one of the country’s most endearing rivers.
A £1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winner, along with a certificate and trophy. The funds should be spent on furthering the activity for which the award was given and we will invite winners to report back the following year about how the funds were helpful.
Applications and Nominations
Applications and nominations are requested from anyone who is, or knows someone else who is, involved in protecting or improving water habitats in England.
Individuals, projects and organisations are all eligible for the award. Otherwise there are no constraints on applications. We are keen to highlight the magnificent work that anglers around the country do to clear up litter, restore damaged habitats and prevent pollution.
Please send your applications and nominations by email to admin@anglingtrust.net with the subject line of Fred J Taylor Award. Alternatively, send them by mail to Fred J Taylor Award, Angling Trust, Eastwood House, 6 Rainbow Street, Leominster, Herefordshire, HR6 8DQ.
While we would like to be able to present the award to the recipient in person at the Game Fair, which is being held from 18-20 July at Blenheim Palace we recognise that this may not be possible. In that case we will ask if another representative of the project can attend.
The closing date is Monday 30 June 2014 and applications and nominations should include the following information:
• Whether the award is for an individual, project or organisation and their name.
• An indication of the area of water/land improved or protected, and an indication of the need for the work.
• Whether this is a proposed new project or the length of time the project or person has been operating.
• Details of any environmental outcomes (reduced litter, new species recorded, fish abundance increase, etc.).
• If an ongoing project then please advise plans for future activities.
• If the project engages volunteers, please describe how the volunteers are involved.
The Angling Trust and The CLA Game Fair reserve the right to publish any information it receives. Please ensure that you have copyright of any photographs and we have the necessary permission to publish them. We are unfortunately unable to return photographs mailed to us.
