Angling’s Governing Bodies, comprising of the National Federation of Anglers, the Salmon and Trout Association and the Sea Angler’s Federation, together with Sport England, have appointed a non-angler as Chief of Coaching.
He is Michael Owen, 42, who hales from Glossop. He has coached the Derbyshire squad in rugby and the women’s north west region team. He is also an avid follower of volley ball, playing at national level.
His main responsibility for the Governing Bodies is to research and assess the present coaching systems, assess the performance of coaches, and then produce an agenda and guidelines for each discipline.
The Governing Bodies believe that structured and formal coaching is the way of the future.
