Author Martin Salisbury, from Leyland, near Preston, in Lancashire is a 24 year-old Legal Clerk who works at Dent, Raven & Marsdens Solicitors, Towngate, Leyland.
He took up fishing over a decade ago as an eight year old. Despite a number of early successes on local pits and ponds it took him over a year to catch his first fish from the Lancaster Canal, a water which he fished often as it ran alongside his parents caravan.
Displaying this natural instinct of perseverance Martin set about writing a book on one of his favourite sports. In 1997, on his University summer holiday Martin wrote a 36 page guide on ‘Coarse Fisheries in Lancashire’. Martin printed and distributed the guide himself to Lancashire tackle shops. The 16,000 word guide detailed 90 fisheries in Lancashire providing information on species present, fish weights, number of pegs, depths, rules, prices and directions.
In 1999, Martin secured a book contract with Sigma Press, from Wilmslow in Cheshire,to write Where To Fish: Lancashire Coarse Fisheries.
