After nearly 20 years of trying Alcester-based George Avery finally won the River Arrow Championships, fished on a low, clear and wind lashed river.
George finally managed to get one of the fancied pegs above the pipe bridge at Wixford and left the rest of the field behind to take the coveted trophy.
The tiny Warwickshire River Arrow is as narrow as ten metres wide in places and snakes its way through rolling countryside over tiny weirs and under ornate ancient bridges.
George landed barbel to 6lb, fishing feeder to a far bank shelf, using maggots in bunches on a size 16 hook; late in the match he added a few small chub to 1lb, for a championship winning 30-8-0
