I can still remember what it was like in the days before pre-prepped particles were available and the mind-numbing, time-consuming, kitchen-clogging, Burco-boiling nuisance that getting bait ready involved. Not only was it the cooking of course, but also the bagging and freezing which took time, huge amounts of freezer space and required a certain degree of forethought to ensure you had thawed particles ready exactly when you needed them.

Since the first pre-prepped particles hit the shelves I have, thankfully, never had to go through the cooking process again and I never will. Now we have high quality particles which can be easily stored, conveniently carried, simply customised and are available wherever and whenever you want them (having a few cans in the boot has caught me fish many times).

As far as the Bait-Tech range is concerned I was sent through three different varieties of their hemp to take a look at: Natural, Aniseed and Chilli.

Good enough to eat...All varieties were supplied in 710g ring pull cans (although the Natural is also available in 350g), all were packed with large, well cooked and split grains with enough oily, flavoured cooking liquid to give groundbait a real boost or to re-hydrate hookbaits etc and all were, as you might expect, preservative free – just freshly cooked, natural hemp.

The Natural was pretty much as you would expect; a quality seed with no bells or whistles which will do exactly what it says on the can. The chilli certainly had enough chilli flakes and seeds visible to give it a bit of a fiery punch and the aniseed was nicely flavoured although, personally, I’m not a great fan of aniseed as an attractor for any species – there are far better out there – but others love it, especially for bream and silvers, and who am I to argue!

Quality, convenient cans at around £2.70 a pop (710g) from all Bait-Tech stockists.
