The new contender for the British barbel record weighed 19lb 6oz, just 6oz heavier than the current record held by Tony Gibson.
The new record holder is Bedford’s Steve Curtin who fished a boilie over crushed boilies.
Steve commented that the river will produce a 20-pounder very soon so it was difficult for him to get too excited about his fish.
