Fifteen year old Laurie Hutchinson from Willand, Devon, fished his local Upton Lakes and caught a 13lb carp and then followed it up an hour later with his personal best carp of 21lb 8oz.
Laurie, who has been carp fishing for only two years, hair-rigged Peperami sausage and presented it on a bolt-rig to 10lb line.
Laurie said, ‘When I arrived at the three acre pool it was overcast and mild. I baited two swims with half a kilo of carp pellet and cast a chunk of Peperami sausage to each. One swim was 20yds away at the end of an island under an overhanging tree. The other was right in the margins.’
It was an hour later when he had the first run.
‘That was a really hard-fighting common of 13lb. Then another hour later I had the second run and that was a solid mirror of 21lb 8oz, my best carp ever.’
The mirror is only 11/2 lb short of the lake record. ‘It took me 10 minutes to land it and I’m well chuffed!’ enthused Laurie.
