River carper Neil Wayte, and RMC Angling web site competitionwinner, Chris Hillier, were on Holyfield weir with Colin Davidson andLee Valley Park’s Fishery Manager, Gary Smith, on the middle of theChannel. Tactics were similar for all with Mainline Assassin-8boilies fished over trout and betaine pellets.
Giant Chub
The first fish was not long in coming with Gary Smith banking oneof the most immaculate looking chub you are ever likely to see. Abright, young specimen of 6lb 10oz and a fish which will threaten the7lb 8oz mark when full of spawn at the back end of the season. Ifanyone doubted Fishers Green’s status as THE prime chub fishery inthe country early evidence had been provided to the contrary…Garywent on to bank another specimen chub of 5lb 4oz and a small commonduring the night.
Bream
Up in the weirpool plenty of carp were showing but the only fishto be banked was a bream of 9lb 8oz to Neil Wayte.
Carp
Colin Davidson was the last to leave the champagne celebrationand cast his baits out but a 5lb 2oz chub and small mirror of about6lb gave him some early action before he came to grips with apristine common carp of 22lb 4oz.

The common, a beautifully conditioned specimen, fell for a boiliefished in the margins over a bed of pellets.
Bismarck
During Colin Davidson’s first ever visit to Fishers Green in theclose season of 2000 he saw a big fish feeding in the margins, a fisha good 5lb heavier than any of the other carp in the area. The carp, distinguished by a small scattering of big scales on its left flank, left a powerful and lasting impression on Colin…..It was TheBismarck
At 8am on 16th June Colin got his prize as The Bismarck picked uphis margin-fished bait and an astonished crowd of onlookers watchedas Ian Welch and Neil Wayte weighed the fish in at a new River Leerecord weight of 35lb 10oz!
