Britain’s biggest brace of roach has been caught from the Hampshire Avon. The massive redfins weighed 3lb 15oz and 3lb 8oz, and were taken trotting maggots under a stickfloat.
The amazing catch was made by Aldershot angler Colin Gilson from a Christchurch AC stretch of the river, the first fish being netted at 2pm and the second just one and a half hours later.
Colin said, “Roach are a species I’ve always loved and my previous PB stood at 3lb 6oz.
Colin’s catch beats the previous best brace caught by Phil Smith from Lynch Hill in 2001.
