King of commercial fisheries as we know them today, Billy Makin, has sold his Makin Preston Innovations fisheries complex to British Waterways for a figure that probably exceeds £ 1 million.
BW will take over the fisheries in the new year.
Billy commented, “It is nothing to do with business for I have loved creating and running the fishery. My father dying recently has been a major factor in me wanting to sell up, pack up and move my interests into different areas that amuse me.”
“I want out of England during the winter months and sunnier climates are extremely appealing,” he added.
The 530 peg Makin fisheries complex, located in Wolvey, Warks was established in 1987 and quickly became a favourite with commercial fishery lovers, and also became controversial due to its stock of barbel, a species that many anglers believe should be restricted to stillwaters.
BW also own Clattercote, Drayton, Earlswood and Boddington.
