Extreme temperatures have always called for extreme precautions and anglers are being urged to ensure they are properly equipped for all eventualities with the reported death earlier this week of Kent carp angler Martin Hoskins during an overnight session on the River Medway.
Mr Hoskins was found dead in his bivvy by a friend the following morning after temperatures had plunged to minus 12 Centigrade overnight on the Kent river venue. Police were called to the scene but are not treating the death as suspicious.
Anglers fishing overnight in extreme cold are advised to ensure they have properly layered clothing and footwear suitable for the conditions, winter bags designed for extreme weather, insulation for bivvy floors, an adequate supply of hot food and drinks and they are advised, if possible, to always fish with a friend.
