Knossington Grange Therapeutic School is a school for boys with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) and firmly believe in giving the boys the quality of life that they deserve by introducing them to carp fishing. The academy first started taking the boys out to the school’s lakes but soon progressed onto taking them on weekends away in search of carp, fishing venues such as the Richworth Linear Complex, Richmond Lakes and a selection of Cemex’s day ticket venues. Following the success of this, the academy began to take the boys over to France to fish for bigger carp and has now resulted in a yearly residential trip to France.
The schoolboys get more than just time on the bank from the Camo Carp Academy, they also gain OCN in Angling and the Environment. The school also teaches Kingfisher awards and a Diploma in Fisheries Management.
Three years ago the academy started working with renowned carp angler and Taska consultant Keith Williams. Keith took time out to sit with the boys and teach them carp fishing tactics, incluiding different baiting situations and rigs. Keith also expressed his interest in becoming more involved with the school and has now joined them on three trips to France, numerous weekends away and he works two days a month with a class teaching the Fisheries Management course. The academy believes Keith is a huge asset and a fountain of knowledge as the boys enjoy sitting with him in a non-formal environment and chatting about rigs, tackle, the angling trade and fish which he has caught in the past.
Taska MD, Steve Tasker, spoke about the sponsorship of the school:
“Our association with The Camo Carp Academy is fantastic. I strongly feel that we need to give something back to the community and if these lads show an interest in the sport, then they should be given the knowledge and resources to develop the talent further – it’s a fantastic cause and highly beneficial for all involved.”
