North East big carp angler Les Marsh was out on the last day of 2012 and finished up with a cracking 30lb plus mirror to end his year in real style. Les tells the story in his own words:
“I was watching TV with the wife on Saturday evening when the weather forecast came on, it was just so good that I thought to myself that I just had to have some of that, Christmas and New Year holiday or not!
I told the wife that I was off fishing, it was dark but that didn’t matter, so I headed off to a Yorkshire stillwater that I frequently fish.
The first night was actually quite chilly and nothing occurred until the second night when the strong southerly wind that had been forecast finally got up and I had three bream, followed by the big mirror at a weight of 31lb 4oz.
The fish took a DNA S7 bottom bait with a pineapple and banana pop up fished snowman style on a Taska line aligner rig with a Baseline Kwick Change Sinker and silicone rig tubing.”
