I haven’t managed to get out much lately – fishing or otherwise! So with the prospect of a whole 12hrs to myself coming up and no bait in the freezer, I had to get hold of some quickly. Shaun Harrison’s “Quest Baits” had popped up on the forum quite a bit, so I though I’d give some a go. A couple of emails to Shaun and I’d decided on the “Fruity Trifle” in 10 and 15mm sized boilies, along with some paste and glug.

First impressions were good – great crumbly texture, firm enough for stick work plus they smell and taste fantastic! A rich, sweet fruity smell that also seemed to have a touch of spice to it – maybe it’s from the “red birdfood” used? As I wouldn’t have long at the lake and would be getting there as it was getting dark, I decided to boost the baits a bit, so I chopped some of the larger 15mm baits and mixed them with whole ones and some 10mm’s. A good glug of the Fruity Trifle, ermm….., glug was added to the box and shaken around and then given time to soak in.

Once I got to the lake, around a kilo of the bait was spread out at maximum ‘pult range, with the wind behind me, and three rods placed over it – two with 15/10mm snowmen and the other with a little stack of 2 x 10mm’s and one of the “alternative” pop-ups Quest supply with their bait. This was then wrapped in the paste. The snowmen were placed in a bag of chops, and a further glug of the glug added.

First fish took one of the offerings just after dark, a 20lbs 08ozs mirror which was followed by 4 other doubles at just the right interval to stop me from getting any sleep! I really loved work the next day…..

So, a thumbs up from me. The baits work from the off and I’d be confident using them on any water. You might be tempted to use birdfood based baits just in the winter, but Fruity Trifle seems to have a good record in the summer too.

Give them a go.
