Many carp anglers were upset at the cost of the entrance fee for non-members to the Carp Society Winter Show at Sandown yesterday. The fee of £ 18 to get in to what has been described as “a tackle show with a bar,” has attracted a stream of protest to the FISHINGmagic offices.
One visitor said, “After receiving your e-mail blast last week which highlighted the above event, I thought it might be worthwhile making time to visit, possibly join the society and get some retail therapy in the run up to Christmas. On Sunday morning, armed with cash and debit card, a colleague and I duly set out for Sandown Park, arrived about 10.30 and were impressed by the filling car park, thinking this should be great.
At the entrance, imagine our horror to be told that as non-members, the entrance was £ 18.00 EACH!!! If this is the way the Carp Society encourage prospective new members I don’t think they will be running for much longer. Also, were the exhibitors, who no doubt were charged a huge fee to have space there, aware of the restrictive practices in place to stop them selling their products to people wishing to buy?
Any thoughts I had of joining this society have now gone and I will be passing on my feelings to all my friends and colleagues who are involved in carp fishing.”
