Clapham Angling Preservation Society have called in police and the Environment Agency after organised gangs steal fish from two ponds on Clapham Common.
Dozens of carp weighing up to 19lb were stolen from the two ponds in south London and sold on for up to £ 600 each.
An EA spokesman said “Previously, the fish have been stolen for profit but more recently they are being taken to eat.”
Reg Gafoor, chairman of CAPS, expressed fears that the ponds will soon be empty if the thefts are not stopped.
