Adrian tells the story for FM in his own words:

“After pre-baiting a few swims on the River Kennet I took the opportunity to target the chub. One of the feature swims was a snag tree but rather than fish upstream of it I decided the best approach was to drop below it and fish back upstream to it, a really neglected tactic but one which usually pays off.

Having identified how I was going to approach it I then introduced some 10mm Dynamite Spicy Shrimp and Prawn Boilies by hand. As far as my end tackle was concerned to keep everything pinned down I used a backlead above 3ft of leadcore with a 2.75oz lead. The hooklink was about 20in of silty black Coretex with a knotless knot to a size 10 Kuro S2 hook.

My hookbait was a 10mm boilie with a little Marine Halibut Paste wrapped around it to which I attached a PVA stocking filled with mixed Dynamite Marine & Betaine Pellets and crushed boilies.

I had the first signs that a fish was interested at about 8.30pm with a sharp jag on the tip, then ten minutes later the tip fell slack and I was into a good chub, after a short fight a thick set fish with an enormous mouth surfaced in front of me; it weighed in at 6lb 10oz and was a beautiful fish and was almost scale perfect.”
