5 Arch Bridge, Foots cray Meadows, Sidcup Kent
As part of our work with THAMES 21, the Cray Anglers Conservation Group are seeking volunteers to join in with a relatively easy going River Clean.
we will provide all the equipment, but you can bring your own waders.
as an angling-based Conservation group who focus on the River Cray, River shuttle and Thames foreshore, we include community participation at all our events.
this serves to educate and inform those who are not normally into the River environment. Also it enables anglers from all walks of life to show that they are taking the lead and making a difference.
we also clean areas where Fishing is not allowed. This is because if it’s upstream we know it will end up coming downstream. The other reason is to show that anglers have wider areas of concern.
I also hope that suitable areas that have restrictions at present, could one day be opened back up to anglers, like they used to be.
Most clean-ups last three hours, some of us could go on for longer, but I have to get the kit cleaned up, packed away, home and a bath.
we have carried out 16 clean-ups since June 2003 and have included over 200 volunteers.
we are working on bigger things now, such as Bio diversity, surveys, education, River Keepers and hope to enable anglers to set up new groups like ours on other rivers in the area.
We have insurance, Health & safety, Risk assessments and qualified First Aiders.
