The Environment Agency would like to remind all anglers that the coarse fish close season starts as usual on 15 March and runs to 15 June inclusive. The aim of the close season is to protect fish stocks during the breeding season.

The close season applies to all rivers, streams and drains in England and Wales, as well as to the Norfolk Broads and some specified stillwaters and canals.

Fishery owners and angling clubs may also choose to operate a close season through their own club or fishery rules, to protect spawning fish or rest the local environment. Anglers should ensure they are clear on their fishery rules and keep this in mind throughout the period.

If you are unsure at all as to whether the Close Season regulations apply to where you intend to fish, you can get full details from your Local Environment Agency Office on 0845 9333111.
