The end of the summer is officially here with the end of the Lakeview Summer League. This 14 match, best 10 to count, was won by the evergreen Phil Waters, Gwinear Peasants, with brothers Anthony and Ian Talbot Lakeview Magic taking second and third respectfully.

Phil will be busy making arrangements now for the Real Cornwall Winter League, which starts in January. Reports of course on the best fishing site on the web, FISHINGmagic.

St Ives A.C felt they were favourites against The Green Machine (THREEMILESTONE AC) during their recent inter club match at Woon Smith. On one of the worst imaginable days, (the water level in this old quarry rose by 6 inches in the 5 hr match) many anglers didn’t fish the whole match due to being completely racked out. Threemilestone filled the first three places overall and took the team title by a mile. St Ives will have a chance to get their own back when they fish the return leg at TMS’s Langarth Lakes, but they will need to sharpen up on their silver fish tactics?

One of Cornwall’s most up and coming clubs St Columb AC held an open competition on Simon Waterhouse’s prolific Windsor Lake at the Gwinear Fishery near Newquay. Club secretary Sandy Anderson tells me 12 anglers attended this match with the spoils going to Dave Taylor, with 28lb 8oz of carp and silver fish to luncheon meat and maggot. Second spot fell to Simon Poynter who maggot-fished his way to 22lb 3oz of carp and roach. The final frame went to Dave Davis with a mixed bag of 14lb 4oz. St Columb’s next open match is 9th December at the Penvose fishery. Further information can be obtained by calling Sandy on 07811 841729 or by e-mailing me at Paul Hancock.

Chris Bailey and Clinton Marshall TMS Toads, arranged a quick match at Nance near St Ives this weekend. Again the heavens opened up, but Chris put the money in the bank with a 17lb 11oz mixed catch made up mainly with carp. Mick Ashcroft of TMS Old School was 2nd and John Baxter was third.

During the breakfast meeting for the Nance match most of the guys didn’t recognise Barry Gillan, who, bless his sole, had head and face shaved bare for Children in Need. What a top man, and from all accounts an ugly bugger to boot. Never mind Pat?

Give me an e-mail if you want to know anything about the Cornish scene. If you fancy a holiday and want to know the best places to stay give me a shout. If you are coming down with a group and fancy a match TMS The Green Machine are always up for it.
