Winter league top rod Simon Poynter has moved camps recentlysigning for the successful Bill Knott Bookmakers outfit. But thesummer has not slowed Simon down, with 2 wins out of 2 in recentmatches. Simons first success came at Gwinear Fisheries Windsor Lakewith an impressive 46lb 14ozs from peg 50. This weight could seem lowbut Gwinear’s Carp population has started spawning early and theyhave only one thing on their mind. Second at the St Columb club eventwas Jerry Furze (St Columb) with 33lb 4oz from peg 49 and TonyWilliams was third with 30lb 8oz from peg 36.
Simon’s next win came a week later when The real Cornwall Leagueheld a match at Penvose Farm Fishery. 2 of the 4 lakes were used toeven things up for the 30 anglers taking part. The usually prolificTop Lake suffered with it’s Carp thinking more about sex rather thaneating. The Bottom Lake was much more productive and even. AlanFarnsworth (Gwinear Retirement Party) took an early lead on “pelletand paste”. Graham Curnow (Clives Tackle) kept in touch fishing tightto the island from peg 14. Simon kept feeding an up in the water linewith the knowledge that the fish would be there late in the match.Paul Hancock (TMS TOADS) kept up with the leaders for the first 3hours of the match, but found it difficult to hold the fish for anylength of time.
As the match moved into the last hour it seemed the match wasbetween Alan, Graham and Simon. Simon moved onto his long up in thewater line and started to hit good size fish. Graham also seemed tobe taking quality fish on the long line but Simon rate of catch wasthe winning factor, with him securing the win from Alan Farnsworthwith a mixed bag for 27lb. Alan was second with 22lb 6oz and GrahamCurnow was third overall with 16lb 12oz. Yours truly took a sectionwin with 16lb 2ozs and Malcolm Wilson (Phoenix Clothing) took the topsection with 14lb.
Threemilestone AC have been having good turnouts for its recentmatches with weights being steady rather than brilliant. Clive Carter(Thatchers) came back to the waters where he learnt his trade to pickup a nice win during a Wednesday evening match. Clive pole fished hisway to 7lb 10oz from peg 12, corn and meat were used on the hook.Last Sunday saw Don Kellow show his class by winning the match by amile (3lb) from Neil Hall. Don who has not enjoyed good health forsome time now pole fished his way to a winning weight of 9lb 14ozfrom peg 6, meat and red maggot being the favoured hook baits.
Not to be left out on putting in a good performance for the Toadsside yours truly won this weeks Wednesday night battle with 9lb frompeg 14. Meat again being the slayer of a totally mixed bag of everspecies of fish in the lake bar Carp. Second once again was Neil Hallwith 4lb 5oz from peg 6.
If your coming to Cornwall and wish to fish any of the multitudeof matches that are available each week, get in contact and I willgive you full details.
Till the next time. Keep it Tight and Tidy.
