I’ve never been particularly lucky with competitions. In fact the last time I won anything was back in 1988 in a quiz on Ceefax or Oracle, and the top prize was a vinyl copy of Motorhead’s seminal live album ‘No Sleep at All’ featuring one of the best ever performances of my personal favourite, ‘Killed By Death’.

I was therefore both surprised and delighted when 21 years after my last ‘triumph’, I was informed by Sofi from FishingMagic that I was the November winner of the monthly photography competition, and the prize was a £50 voucher to spend at Game Fishing Supplies.

As we were well into the pike and zander season on the Severn, predator gear was the order of the day and I spent my winnings on a pair of Grey’s new LCD Nite floats and a couple of spools of ProLogic’s excellent SavageGear Softflex wire (thoroughly recommended for zander).

Little did I suspect then that things could get even better…

The only thing missing is the Christmas tinsel!

You could have knocked me down with a feather when a month or so back I was contacted again by FishingMagic, this time with the astounding news that John Bailey had picked my oddball snap of micro-lures as the yearly winner of the FM photo competition… and the prize was a £500 ‘supermarket sweep’ with Game Fishing Supplies!

Talk about a kid in a candy store; I never realised shopping could be so much fun! Ian Woods and his staff at Game Fishing Supplies were incredibly helpful assembling my dream shopping basket, and even went to the trouble of ordering in a couple of Greys rods that weren’t listed on their website.

My prize bundle arrived this morning (last Friday, Ed.) and it’s been like the best Christmas ever unpacking it all.

I would like to say a big thank you to all at FishingMagic, John Bailey for picking my entry from a very strong field, and to Ian and his team at Game Fishing Supplies for sponsoring the competition and going out of their way to get me the kit I wanted.

Tight Lines!
