Over a thousand anglers will be able to start fishing in the new licensing period even though they won’t be in possession of a rod licence.
They applied for a licence through direct debit but due to a delay by Royal Mail the applications for direct debit licences didn’t arrive at the EA’s Post Office Box in Warrington until it was too late to process them in time for 1st April.
The Environment Agency is issuing a letter to those anglers affected, giving them permission to fish without a licence until 14th April when the situation should have been sorted out.
Anglers who carry this letter, and some means of identification, will be able to fish without a rod licence without fear of prosecution.
Licences are available thorough the internet ( Rod Licence online) and the Post Office.
