Liverpool angler and FISHINGmagic.com member Eddie Bibby, 57, visited a southern gravel pit for the first time and netted a double-figure bream on his second cast. Along with Eddie on the two day visit were Stoke on Trent angler Dave Colclough, Suffolk angler Dave Dowding, also FISHINGmagic members, and FISHINGmagic editor Graham Marsden. Dave Dowding (Mr Wriggles) upped his personal best bream twice during the visit with fish of 9lb and 9lb 10oz, and Graham took bream to double figures.
Using bait supplied by Mr Wriggles the party fished in thick frost and used boilies and method feeder tactics to take a mixed bag of bream to 10lb 2oz, tench to 7lb and a small carp.
Eddie said, ‘I couldn’t believe it. I fished the Cheshire meres for about eight years before I caught my first double-figure bream, and now I come down here and catch one on my second cast. I know the average size of many species has gone up in recent years but this is ridiculous. And to catch them when a thick frost covered the ground was too much to hope for, although it did put paid to the fishing later on.’
