The carp known as The Long Fish, weighing in at exactly 35lb, was hooked, played and landed from the frozen Crayfish Pool by Shimano Hard Core Team member Alan Welch.

Alan found the carp holed up in a marginal snag, but with careful baiting managed to entice them out to a marginal slope where he could present his hookbaits to the now confidently feeding fish.
The feed was caster and hemp and a single bleep from his alarm told him the strategy had worked.
But it didn’t help that the lake had frozen overnight and all he had was a small, clear patch in front of him which he’d broken for just such an event. Alan plunged the rod and reel underwater and eventually managed to get the fish to the clear patch and net it.
