For the last five years the Trust, which works to conserve the wildlife of the River Eden and its many tributaries, has been based at Skirsgill Business Park, close to junction 40 of the M6.
Now it has moved to the Dunmail building on the Newton Rigg College site, which is around twice the size of its former offices.
Director Simon Johnson said, “After five very happy years at Skirsgill we are looking forward to developing links with Newton Rigg College, particularly Askham Bryan College which has just taken over further education at the campus. This new move will allow us to continue and expand the vital conservation work we carry out to improve conditions for wildlife in the Eden and the hundreds of miles of rivers and lakes in its catchment.”
Currently the Trust is working on a number of projects. They include trying to save the endangered white-clawed crayfish, increasing fish populations in the rivers, reducing the risk of flooding and preventing pollution.
Collaboration between the Trust and the College could see students becoming involved in conservation projects on the Eden and joint bids being made for funding to carry out more ecological work.
The Principal of Askham Bryan College, Liz Philip, said, “We are delighted that Eden Rivers Trust is joining us on the campus and we look forward to exploring different ways in which the link can help our students and also the vital conservation work on the River Eden.”
Eden Rivers Trust was set up in 1996 and has expanded from an initial staff of one to now employing 10 people.
The new address for Eden Rivers Trust is Dunmail Building, Newton Rigg College, Penrith, CA11 0AH. The phone number, 01768 866788, and email address, office@edenriverstrust.org.uk, remain the same.
