I’d not been out for a while due to car problems and I’d had enough by the end of the week. In fact, I was practically climbing the walls. I really wanted to fish Melton Pit, near Ipswich, which is not far from me.
I was so desperate I even checked out how much it would cost to get to Melton by taxi! But as luck would have it a friend phoned and I persuaded him to take me.
I set myself the challenge to beat my personal best bream, which is 10lb 11oz.
I’d taken the baitboat with me to do some depth checking and lake bed mapping in case it was a bit slow. But when we got there I could see the bream topping near the island. A quick chat with a couple of locals and they said the same thing happened the day before.
The plumbing rod came out and all I could find at first was deep silk-likeweed. I then found a spot that seemed clear but too far to get particles andsmall pellets to, so out came the boat and down went a carpet of feed.
Well they were slow to respond and all I seemed to locate was carp, although I was pleased with a nice leather carp that no-one appears to know was there – so that wasanother first!
Early next morning I had two bream, the smallest at 9lb 10oz, and my new PB of 11lb 6oz!
From then on it was line bites all the time and I was primed to bag up. Then my mate said he had to go home!
Oh well, there’s always next time. Maybe then I’ll break into the 12lb bracket!
