Fishing Chips!Custom Built Rods have started to fit microchips into the rods they build, or the chip can be fitted into an existing rod.Custom Built Rods’ boss Colin Leatherbarrow said, “the microchip’s special unique ID number allows the rods to be indisputably identified when read by a microchip scanner. If a rod gets stolen or lost and is recovered by, or handed in to the Police, an owner can be identified in minutes by simply scanning the rod and then making a phone call to the national database.” The microchip has no moving parts and does nothing until a scanner (which all Police forces have) is moved across it – then it reveals its secret ID code to the scanner. The chip will probably outlive the life of the rod by 100 years or more. Microchips will not be affected by water and can withstand both heat and cold within acceptable extremes. The favourite site for a microchip to be fitted to a new, in production, rod is under the reel-seat (11.2 x 1.5mm cylindrical microchip transponder weighing just 0.0732 of a gram). “Microchips can be fitted to other manufacturer’s rods,” says Colin, “but I will of course need to see the rods to determine the site of the implant.” “I can fit a microchip to any of my Custom Built Rods (at the time of manufacture) for £ 10 per rod, including database registration.” He added. |
