For the second year running angling coaches from Oham Lakes fisheries and the Trout and Salmon Association will unite as they invite visitors to sample the joys of coarse and game fishing at the two-day event held on 18th and 19th June 2008. Following support from the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, coarse fishing featured at the Show for the first time last year and proved a great success with around 400 visitors of all ages choosing to pick up a pole and fish at the pond in the heart of the Lincolnshire Showground. The Salmon and Trout Association has been at the show for several years offering visitors the chance to learn how to tie a fly and fish for their supper and tempting local primary and secondary schools to compete in their popular casting competition. All fishing activities will again be run by several fully qualified, licensed angling coaches who are looking to battle it out in their own competition of maggot bait versus artificial flies. Barry Grantham, the Salmon and Trout Association’s Area Organiser for Lincolnshire, said: “We will again have a grudge fishing match with the coarse fishing team to see who can catch the most fish in the pond; it’s just a bit of fun really. “Our main aim at the show is to recruit new members to game angling and to get children involved. We’d really like to have more youngsters taking part.” Anne Higham, an instructor from the premier Oham Lakes in the Lincolnshire village of Maltby le Marsh, added: “We are hoping to have more participation at this year’s show and to bring more people, especially girls, into the sport. “Bringing people into fishing is something the Environment Agency, the National Federation of Angling and the new Angling Development Board are all working toward.” In addition to the fishing sessions the stands will include children’s activities and the Salmon and Trout Association will also host vintage tackle and chalk stream displays.
