Coventry Mind, the mental health charity organisation which provides support for individuals who experience different mental health concerns, are appealing to the general public and to fishing manufacturers and retailers for donations of second-hand fishing and terminal tackle.
Over the past year, a group of individuals who experience mental health concerns, and who access Coventry Mind’s services, have been going fishing on a fortnightly basis to a local fishery where they have hired fishing tackle. The group is self-facilitating, even though two support workers regularly attend, in order to provide transport via our minibus to fisheries, and support throughout the day’s fishing.
Having the opportunity to learn and be able to go fishing has been beneficial for the individuals who suffer with mental health concerns, who have expressed experiencing fishing as relaxing and enjoyable. The opportunity to be out in the fresh air, and be surrounded by picturesque scenery has also been described as a benefit for their mental health through their experience of going fishing.
Recently, Coventry Mind has acquired some fishing and terminal tackle, though we still need more in order for more individuals who experience mental health concerns, and who access Coventry Mind’s services, to be able to go fishing. The need for more fishing/terminal tackle has also increased since members of the group who have regularly been going fishing would like to access different fisheries whereby they would need a wider variety of terminal tackle.
