Fishing makes its UK mobile debut this week as the Discovery Real Time channel launches Discovery Mobile – ‘Fishing Tackled’. This mobile application features a range of content designed for both fishing enthusiasts and those new to the sport including video tutorials, games, real time weather services and animated downloads. The WAP-enabled service can be accessed by anyone with a mobile phone, and is sure to be a massive hit with Britain’s four million anglers. Discovery Real Time has hand-picked the best content from its TV programming to create a range of video tutorials. Presented by Matt Hayes, one of the most skilled fisherman in the country and presenter of the Greater Rod Race, the bite-sized guides are packed full of hints and tips on landing the catch of the day. Fishing fans are also given the choice of downloading further tutorials in the form of podcasts including Matt Hayes’ hugely popular ‘Essential Fishing Skills’, a five-part beginners guide to coarse fishing. The shows have taken the fishing world by storm with over 60,000 downloads to date. For anglers heading down to the bank, ‘Fishing Tackled’ also features an exclusive weather service providing real time updates across the UK. If the forecast isn’t fish-friendly, a TV listings service allows Discovery Real Time fans to search the programme schedule for their favourite shows. Finally, the new service includes arcade-style games designed to keep fishing fans entertained when they’re unable to get to the riverbank. Users will also be able to download ‘Fish Files’, a range of animated screensavers displaying top facts on fish that are regularly caught in Britain’s waterways. To coincide with the launch of Discovery Mobile’s Fishing Tackled, made-for-mobile episodes of Matt Hayes fishing programmes will be featured on the Discovery Mobile TV service, which is available on Vodafone Live! and the Orange Mobile TV portal. By simply entering discoverymobile.co.uk into their WAP browser, consumers will have access to this exciting new content. Discovery Mobile is also available on O2’s i-mode portal. Matt Hayes, Discovery Real Time fishing presenter, said: “The launch of our podcasts over the summer showed just how hugely popular fishing is. It also showed us that fans are keen to take a bit of the riverbank with them when they’re on their way to work. Now we’re able to deliver visual master classes as well as fun content to occupy anglers wherever they are.” The launch of ‘Fishing Tackled’ coincides with the airing of The Greater Rod Race on Discovery Real Time Starring Matt Hayes and Mick Brown, the two men attempt a six hundred mile dash through some of the best angling in Europe, from the west coast of Ireland to the most easterly point in England. See them tackle sea fishing, river fishing and fishery locations, in all kinds of weather, to complete the challenge. But, there’s a catch (so to speak). In order to travel a single inch in their shiny new camper van, the intrepid anglers must reel in fish, and the heavier they are, the farther they go – each pound of fish equates to a mile. If they find themselves 20 miles from the next stretch of water they must catch 20 pounds of fish in order to resume their journey. But that’s not all, Matt and Mick have also been given a strict time-limit – they have just 30 days to catch six hundred pounds of fish! UK Premiere: Fridays at 10.30pm from 10th November For more information on the content within Fishing Tackled on Discovery Mobile visit www.realtimetv.co.uk/fishing. |
