THE FISHRITE MINI STIFF RIG WALLET
Price: £ 11.99

“Ideal for the angler using short stiff rigs when PVA bag fishing.”

That’s what the Fishrite website says about it and I guess it fulfils that description quite well. It will also suit those anglers who like fishing method feeders with very short hook lengths, 4″ or so. The case is very compact measuring approx 51/2 ” x 8″ (14cm x 201/2 cm) when closed so for me it fits very nicely into my roving bag as well.

One problem, fault, call it what you might, but the embroidery on the front suggests it’s the “Multi Stiff Rig Wallet”. I think this is just a problem of not having the correct program on the sewing machine when the embroidery was done. Anyway, it’s what it does that matters, not what it says.

As you see in my photo, although it’s meant to take very short hook lengths you can fit in longer hook lengths up to 12″ (30cm) by doubling them around a peg. It’s a pity no-one makes a peg shaped like a capstan to avoid a sharp bend in the material. I wouldn’t put mono or fluorocarbon hook links in like this, but normal braided material is okay as any kinks in the link soon fall out. Can’t have kinky links, can we?

The quality and stitching is sound with no overruns or misses. I’ve heard a lot of good reports about Fishrite products (and I’m not just saying that because they sponsor the site!). The covering is top quality with a good bias binding (tape to you) around the edge and finished with an excellent zip which should be easy to open and close even with the wettest, coldest hands.

Inside, there are two sides, each of which has a stainless steel bar embedded into the hard foam pegboard. It comes with 20 short headed pegs, although I found the standard pegs you can buy from stationers also fit, but they will put indents into the foam on the opposite side when closed. However, this is also the case with other manufacturers similar products.

Jeff Woodhouse’s VERDICT

This item is now going to undergo a fair bit of use for storing my barbel links. I will see if I can find something to use as a capstan so that it doesn’t kink coated hook links and some monofilaments, but providing you don’t stretch them too tightly, you shouldn’t have much of a problem. I like compact things and this sure beats the little plastic rig board that was in my tackle box.
