It seems that some anglers feel that the actual melting of a PVA bag can be detected by fish due to the residue left behind.

Apparently Gardner do not feel this is the case but for those who do Gardner have introduced a range of flavour-impregnated PVA bags which have been two years in development.

The first thing you notice when you take one out of the packet is the flavour, in this case ‘Blue Fruit’. it is very evident without being overpowering. The bags are of Gardner’s usual standards being strong, easy to open and stand up well to casting.

For our tank tests we filled the bags with trout pellets and a 2oz lead.

The breakdown is very rapid, it was all over in a little under 10 seconds!

Whether this would be too rapid for some anglers is down to personal choice.

Once the main bag has dissolved you can see that there is indeed a residue breaking away and some being left behind, but after about 30 seconds there was no trace of residue on the pellets at all.

I can only assume that any of the PVA floating away from the baits will in fact leak flavour into the surrounding water as it too dissolves, becoming an added attractor.

The range at the moment consists of Blue Fruit and Blue Spice with Blue Cream and Blue Fish versions to be released soon.

The bags measure 90 by 125mm and will hold enough baits to cover most situations for anglers. So if you have had doubts about the residue left behind by PVA then these will set your mind at rest.
