At a Downing Street Press Conference the Prime Minister willpledge that there will be “no complacency” as the epidemic enters itsfinal stages and the backlog of slaughtered animals is cleared.

Mr Blair will say: “It is clear that we are winning the battleagainst foot-and-mouth. We have the right policy. It is working.

“The trend of the disease is clear and the number of daily caseshas fallen. But there will be no relaxation of our guard. Nocomplacency.”

This comes shortly after the Environment Agency commented thatmost of our rivers will be open on 16th June.
