Report for week ending 11th August 2001
This season’s record for Brown Trout was shattered, by an amazing2 lb 6 oz this week when 12-year-old schoolboy Sam Gilman landed a 6lb 3 oz specimen from the Aerators.
Sam, who comes from Burton on Trent, was fishing over the Aeratorswith fishery ranger Dave Granby when he hooked into the superblyconditioned Brown Trout.

Sam was fishing an Olive Tadpole to a floating line and wasretrieving quite slowly when “everything went tight”. It took Samquite some time to land his fish after it made several runs and tookhim round the boat a few times. Eventually Dave managed to get thenet under it and said, ” I couldn’t believe the size of, severaltimes I thought he had lost it”
I suspect this was one the 55,000 fingerlings that were introducedto the water a few years ago. A lot of anglers have been brokenrecently and I wouldn’t be surprised if these Browns were theculprits.
Dave Ritchie from Coalville also had something to talk about whenhe landed the weeks biggest Rainbow. A 7 lb 3 oz full-finned fishthat, judging by the amount of tail growth, has also been a long termresident of Foremark.
Other very notable fish caught this week include 7 lb Rainbow toan Olive Hopper – Reg Sweetmore. 6 lb 5 oz Rainbow by C. Griffin. 6lb Rainbow to Paul Walker. 5 lb 2 oz Rainbow – Alan Topping, OliveDamselfly, Aerators. 5 lb Rainbow – Tony Edwards.
