I will be right at the back. Silly price really for a commodity with little use outside of fishing and where aesthetics don’t count.

It’s the leaving gift that someone buys for an angler that already has everything they need; and is the icing on the cake for them; or for someone who’s got more money than sense; but I would never pay that much for a landing net myself; however I wouldn’t turn it down if it was bought for me as a gift. :)

I would be disgusted if someone bought that for me as a gift Keith, to waste that amount of money on such a paltry item is a disgrace!!! In fact I would give it back demanding the money went to something useful, like my gas and electric bill...

A fetish object?

Saw a funny item online. A no-nonsense successful ex-city trader who posts on finance and politics was explaining what he said to the mate who asked why he ran just a small cheap car. Because, he said, if I'm sat in a £100k car and some bloke pulls alongside in a £200k car, I look like a d**k. But if I'm in the Fiesta and he pulls up in the £200k car, he looks like a d**k.

Someone who I used to work with 12 years ago only went Carp fishing about 6 times a year due to family commitments. He only brought high-end tackle and owned a Solar Bow-Loc which would be a similar price point. His wife brought him a new bait boat with all the latest wizardry. On January he was on his break when he read in a Carp magazine for £300 more she could have got him the Camouflaged version he was crestfallen. When a colleague asked him why he spends so much on tackle when he only goes infrequently. His reply "When I sit in my Aqua bivvy and lookout on my gear it makes me feel good" He was a very likable guy but one of the most materialistic people I have ever met. I am sure the Century net will sell well to similar characters.

MAP brought out an expensive handle a couple of years ago the 1001, there were a few breakages , some possibly to user not lifting correctly .
When I bought the Drennan I checked out others brands elite handles . Daiwa ,PI etc .
They either felt to flimsy to hold or not stiff enough .
Vespe do one which you have to order , that is supposed to be a brilliant handle ,again it's £100 +

There was a joke about prices on the kind of Russian yuppies who sharked in to rip off state assets in the 90’s:

Look at this watch. Cost me $1000

You’re an idiot. I know where you can get that for $2000

Or ten million lira in Turkey

On a similar note to Hugh I've met a few guys now who match fish, not sponsored in any way, but every year they change their gear, manufacturer wise, , rods, reels, poles, luggage, clothing, accessories, like hooks, seat boxes etc, this makes £300 look like chicken feed, imo the changing of gear happens, better stuff, or a search for the holy grail, but there is no one company that produces the best of everything, so looking good with all orange gear(Guru) doesn't get the job done...

If the handle has a no quibble life time guarantee and will be FOC when I stand on it and the net with the same, regards being stood on, ragged by brambles, pike etc. Then I might just be interested but some form of tracking device with an app linked to my phone would probably clinch the deal.
