I reckon it could be improved. It is pretty good though. It's first time I've seen a copy. A mate brought a pile of Carp magazines round tonight and it was in the bag with them!

It would cost somebody a lot of money to put a lot of these out. I'd like to see them go out with licences at least.

I also prefer the route where the Barbel Society tweak the wording of their code and work with someone like the NFA (or whoever is necessary) on something where match angling is involved and moved forward.

Maybe everyone will eventually come on board and angling will be united! Hoorah!!!

That has to be the aim in all truth Matt, its all well and good fishing and caring for 1 species but the main aim has to be to show the same level of care to all species.

Of course it has but they're nothing wrong with the BS caring for Barbel, especially as there are more and more Barbel anglers appearing.

Dear Master,
Just so we're clear I really don't care what you call people like me.
I'm glad you said "hit back" because then its clear that it was in response to your attack in the first place, don't know why you felt it necessary to come on here have a pop in the first place but you obviously feel that it's OK and if you insult me again I'll roll over and get all upset.
Don't know what ones supposed to do on forums other than browse and respond.
You may feel that it's OK to send abusive e-mails to people and then pretend it's all water under the bridge but as I explained to you at the time they were read by my young children in my absence and I certainly will never forget or forgive your filth.

I agree, but at this time with, apparently, several people/bodies possibly looking at putting something new(?) together, the opportunity is there to produce something on a much larger scale for the sport as a whole! Taking the lead on something such as this would put any organisation in a much better light I believe.

I am sure the BS reps would love to have a 'barbel handling code' in every tackle shop etc, this I believe could be achievable, or at least more viable, as part of a more general guide using the EA, NFA etc.

I am sure many such 'guides' exist but they are not readily available to all!

Hi Ady, there was no real need for your initial post here. It really was just antagonistic.
This thread was started by Fred in an attempt to talk about the real issue of handling Barbel, and stop me and the rest from just winding Bob up.

You should have joined in on that one if you wanted to play for a bit.

Comment has been made about the wider contexts of angling and designing a code
involving other organisation such as NFA EA, etc. Can I respectfully point out that such a code has been in existence for about ten years now and is endorsed by the said organisations and paid for by the EA.

That Code is the Code of Conduct for Coarse Anglers issued by The National Angling Alliance now on its second edition.

The EA has advertised it in Catch and Reel magazines, as has AT and AM, along with many other single species group magazines.

The Specialist Anglers Alliance web site carries a full copy of it as well.

Hi Phil, I managed to get hold of a copy last night. It's the first I'd seen of it other than a web based version yesterday morning.

It's very impressive and it's impressive who's on board with it.

Can you tell me - Is there a reason why the BS aren't listed as supporters? (the Barbel Catches and Barbel Specialists are).

Dearest "Master",
I take it you meant "drivel", if you're going to have any credibility as an intellectual countering our "unconstuctive one line comments"(sic)you're going to have to raise your game somewhat.
No Aide,it's not the real issue at all,you still don't get it do you.
The real issue, brought up on here by B2B's ,is being debated in the correct place(IMO) by the appropriate people i.e. the experienced members and elected committee of the BS.
In my humble opinion it's in very good hands especially now Lee's back on board.
Unlike you and your mate I have never claimed to any kind of expert,I just love being in the company of a few good friends (some of them lifelong since I was at Junior School) and if a barbel comes along it's a bonus, certainly don't feel the need to tell the world and his grandmother how good I am at catching a few, because I'm not.

Thought long and hard this morning after reading comments on another forum last night and then half the morning on the phone with several people I love and respect and they're right, there is no point any more you're just not worth it.

Have the floor,I won't be replying again however I look forward to reading the intellectual debate between you and the Ayatollah of Donny, should be fun now that you've finally mastered cut and pasting, has he been giving you private tuition so he's got an ally, perhaps he'll buy you a Thesaurus for Christmas as a thank you for your support?
Best wishes,
Chris

Bigswordy's Barbel handling code

1) Do it as often as possible
2) Try your best not to cause harm to the fish
3) Enjoy the experience you may get hit by a bus tommorow and then it wont really matter a toss.

Surely the Barbel Society is the right place to work together with to update the existing code?

After all, it's the fish welfare that we should all strive together to improve, taking the best view and comments put forward. No time for ego trips here surely?

Bob, whatever the real reasons, teamwork will give the best results...that's what we want isn't it.

Regards the thorn called Hazelford - I have only fished there twice.

1/ the first time it looked like a rubbish tip, thoughtless anglers dumping cans, bottles and bags of waste.

2/ When I popped there last time and walked up to the section it was very much improved. It appeared it had been taken from the careless masses and returned to a water to be proud of.

Having met Bob briefly I found him to be an honest, thoughtful person, there is no doubt that barbel welfare is his prime motive.

I am proud to call Tony, Fred personal friends who I also respect. (not met Chris)

Enough of the tripe now guys.

You know, I was just about to email Ade and Chris privately and say for f*cks sake stop using this thread as a war zone.

It's finally got around to discussing issues so please, take it off line.

But Chris doesn't have any details in his profile so I'll say it here.

Pack it in guys. I'll sart a seperate thread, in the barbel section, and if anyone wants to have a go at me, use my name in vain, fall out with each other over what I might have said or done, now or at some time in the past, bloody well do it there.

This is, after all, a serious issue!!!
