I still occasionally use my old 506 that I bought back in the 70s and it’s still going strong. I’ve heard some anglers saying how bad the modern MK2 versions are so I’ve not had a look at them myself.

I agree with Whitty about closed face reels being better for smaller fish. Whenever any larger fish are hooked I’ve always needed to do a couple of dummy casts afterwards; because the line tends to bed in, even though I only ever load about 50 mtrs of light line onto it because of its very narrow spool.

when I bought it I much preferred using my Mitchel Match reel rather than my 506 when I was using a waggler on still or slowly moving water although I did occasionally choose to use my 506 closed face reel when trotting streams using a top n bottom floats although nowadays it’s not often that I still use it as I much prefer using a centre-pin when I’m trotting on flowing water.
