I wonder if AD is part of SD?
Its a PLC listed on the AIM stock exchange, its definitely not owned by SD
I wonder if AD is part of SD?
Anyone taking bets on how long that will be the case?
My guess would be on whenever the less favourable shop lease runs out and they can then close it and force people into the other shop, thus maximising profits.
But that's commercialism, I don't like it but where would we be without it?
It's a never ending cycle, I've seen it for nigh on thirty years in my former profession.
Big chain comes along, takes over the world and then cocks up by taking people for a ride.
Entrepreneur sees this and offers an alternative, entrepreneur makes a success of an independent business and a giant comes along and engulfs him.
Giant cleans up and starts to take people for a ride, having knocked out the competition and an entrepreneur comes along and opens an independent business...
The circle of life.
Used to link post to files when I worked for the civil service, one chap from the Shetlands actually had the surname Tw*t, there’s a village called that as well.
Bet that was good for a laugh at school roll call.
Steve, North West Angling had been up for sale a while, I think the building had a short lease when it first went up for sale, By short I mean around 6 or 7 years, I don't know about Ted Carters, Carters used to sell a lot of top range 2nd hand tackle, mainly split cane rods and centre pins and fly tackle, they did some modern tackle as well including rive seat boxes, I am not sure if AD will carry that part of the business on.
I said on another forum that no shop is safe even, Glasgow angling would be sold for the right price. Yet AD and FR seem to have missed the the opportunity to buy jks in bicester.
I've found that shops that do a lot of mail order are the worst for advice of customer service. You wind up speaking to someone with less product knowledge than yourself. The person could be selling anything as to them it's just a part number. I'm lucky as I have a first class shop at Penge that doesn't do mail order. In the last couple of weeks i've phoned northwest angling (now angling direct) . The first time was about getting a new drennan rod bag for a acolyte which resulted in a headache for me and no joy whatsoever. The second time was a few moments ago enquiring if they had any bayer perlon mono in stock. When it was northwest angling they had shelves full of it and prettty much any other mono you wanted so I assumed they would carry on with the stuff that northwest had stocked.
Anyhow they don't have it! Talking to the people on the other end of the phone was really awkward and they had no idea what I was talking about, I had to spell out bayer perlon to the chap I just spoke to. I can't see myself ever using them for any future purchases!
I don't know if the older guys are still working there from when it was NWA I think one was called Stan, The staff before it was taken over knew their stuff, I went in once to enquire about a price for a drawer unit for a maver seat box, he said if I didn't mind a different colour, get a Leeda Carp Match one, made at same place as Maver and Daiwa ( which would have fitted as well) and less than half the price of the other two.
Hi Tigger, I have been in a couple of times since the takeover and not seen either of them, There are a few young lads working there along with a couple of guys I have not seen before, The first time I went in after the takeover it was like a car boot sale, tackle everywhere being sorted for stocktaking, The last time I went it was a bit better but everything had been moved around, The same thing happened at Tacklesaver, which I believe was part of the package when took NWA over.
I came across Coppull Angling shop some weeks ago, helpful staff, I will be going back there along with Leigh Tackle and bait which I have used for a few years, And I still go to my local one in Warrington.
