If it anything like when they took over climax where I live its 99% carp and they never have anything in stock and more expensive than other tackle shops for bait a pint of maggots £2.90 normal price £2.40 to £2.60

Believe it or not, AD used to do some cracking deals. However, as it's a good five years or so since I bought anything from them, it would suggest that they've not been the cheapest I've found for at least that long.

I wonder if a tackle shop called " no carp fishing tackle" would survive!

It would be a brave, or stupid, owner that went down that road. I can't think of a single local shop that doesn't have at least 25% carp gear, even when the owner has little interest in, and little knowledge of, carp gear.

I’ve had mixed fortunes with Ted Carters service, having said that I hate to see one company starting to monopolise the market.

It happened with photography, all the indie shops with really experienced staff fell by the wayside to Jessops and the like using teenage staff that didn’t know sweet fa.

It really saddens me.

Only used AD once, ordered a rod and when it arrived it had 3 inches of the tip missing, which was nowhere to be seen!
Ok, I got a full refund, but had to mess around sending it back to them, which cost me some time.
Only buy big ticket items from my local shop now, unless they can't get what I want.
Always get a good deal and something thrown in, and if there is any problem, take it back and it's sorted.

Pretty much everyone will price match these days, providing the item is in stock where you've seen it cheaper.

I found it a little amusing and a little irritating the first time I went into the new Lincoln branch of AD. The staff were falling over themselves to be good and helpful. It was can we help you MATE, are you OK MATE. MATE this and MATE that.
Still I suppose thats better than the surly indifference of the manager of a certain Scunthorpe outlet.

Since AD have acquired Ted Carters, They now have two shops within twenty minutes of each other, North West Angling is the other shop. They also have one around forty five minutes from those called Tacklesaver. North West used to price match, Tacklesaver gave me a discount due to a club I am in, Both of these have stopped since AD took over. Ted Carters would price match and would look for the cheapest price they could get for you, I have had some good service off Graham and the staff there, I have ordered things and had them put on my account and collected them a couple of days later, If AD decide to go for Leigh Tackle which is the best in the area, they will have the north west sewn up, I have been in both Tacklesaver and Northwest since the take over and the places have been like huge car boot sales, lots of Ad own brand tackle on show, the major branded tackle shelves part empty, This may be due to stock taking I don't know, but they were different shops than when I had been in prior to take over,

I just got a package from them yesterday in fact. Arrived in tact & it was free international postage too over a certain amount.

Price looked ok for what I was buying.

I'll use them again.

There is something about AD that I just don't like but cannot put my finger on. I have used them and probably will do again but only if I cannot get what I want elsewhere at a competitive price. I would never use them for bits and bait.

Anyone taking bets on how long that will be the case?

My guess would be on whenever the less favourable shop lease runs out and they can then close it and force people into the other shop, thus maximising profits.

But that's commercialism, I don't like it but where would we be without it?

It's a never ending cycle, I've seen it for nigh on thirty years in my former profession.

Big chain comes along, takes over the world and then cocks up by taking people for a ride.

Entrepreneur sees this and offers an alternative, entrepreneur makes a success of an independent business and a giant comes along and engulfs him.

Giant cleans up and starts to take people for a ride, having knocked out the competition and an entrepreneur comes along and opens an independent business...
