I had a look at one in the nearest Angling Direct shop at lunchtime and nearly bought it. Then had a search online this evening at work, saw this offer and had to go for it.

Here's a noob question for you. I've got some 4lb fluro that i use for leaders when i'm using tiny lures. My mainline for the lure setup is 6lb braid which is so much nicer than the olden days mono of my youth. Now, this reel is for my light ledgering setup. Do i just fill the reel's spool with the 4lb fluro when it arrives or is there something else i should be doing?

I know next to nothing about flouro. What I would ask is what size fish do you expect to target. A baitrunner is usually associated with lumpier fish usually carp etc.
If lumps are in the offing maybe 4lb is a bit light? Perhaps 6lb might mono might fill the spool nicely and this would give the option of a lighter hooklength if required?
Bulk spools are ideal for the first fill. When the spool empties a bit with wastage a different line of choice can be added.

Fluoro is rarely used as mainline other than by carpers. They use if for its fast sinking properties which can be a distinct advantage when fishing slack lines.
Beyond that, I can't think of any particular reason to use fluoro as a mainline. I dare say that there may be some light specialists out there that could be employing slack line techniques where fluoro may be an advantage.

Chub to 3lb and a bit, trout to 2lb, those are the biggest lumps i've had ledgering since i started up again.

4lb then would be OK in your stream I think.. Enjoy your pics. Let us know how it pans out.

Cheers John. Might do a bit of light deadbaiting one day, i'm interested to know how big the jacks go. There's also the chance of a swim where i can stick a ledger out and do a bit of tiddler bashing in the margins, be nice to have the option of a baitrunner when i'm not able to give the ledger rod my full attention.

Getting a bit ahead of myself here but hopefully you get the idea.

I'm amazed how well my pics turn out, phone is at least 5 year old and i am no photographer. I do think of you lot when i take the pic though.

I have added a spare spool or two to my baitrunners to give me options of use.
Regards to Essex.

I’ve got two DL2500FB and love them, particularly the great front drag and the double handles.

One is on my Daiwa Matchwinner 10/11 feeder rod and the other is on an 11ft 1.25lb Drennan Avon Quiver.

The combination of the 2500 and the Daiwa rod is possibly the nicest legering outfit I’ve ever fished with and has accounted for carp to 16lb without breaking sweat. The Drennan outfit, with 8lb line, is something I will fish with confidently knowing that a 20 could be a possibility.

I also have the DL4000FB which is on a 1.75lb Fox Warrior Barbel Twin Tip.

Shimano do make brilliant reels and these smaller models are the mutt’s nuts!
