Barbel rods

Re the sight rings on quiver tips I had two 2oz tips break on the Daiwa avon both casting half ounce bombs. Daiwa replaced the tips without question though i did tell them of my concern about the sight rings they never gave an explanation. The rings have now been removed but my confidence in the tips has gone with them. Iam looking for a stepped up rod but i dont think it will be from Daiwa.

well I finally got my hands onto the Diawa Barbel specialist-agreed the isotope attachment is too high up -but that is easily rectified, the rod is the business andd i am well impressed-it also means that one rod will suffice on a roving trip, and loaded with 5lb maxima is great on the float or tip for the Dove depending on the type of swim-I am all for long walks to secluded pegs-BUT without a shedful of kit!

I manage o.k with a Fox Barbel Plus, but my favourite is still the Terry Eustace Barbel Quiver, the glass one ! For most other applications however, my all time favourite is my Oliver's Kennet Perfection !
Regarding the people talking about problems with poorly positioned betalite rings, perhaps you might consider using the excellent "Nightlite" (sic) adaptors by Enterprise Tackle. They are available in different sizes,Avon, carp rod,and quiver.
The big plus is that they are removable and the position can be adjusted. I get mine from The Tackle Box. No, I don't work for either, but why keep quiet about good tackle ?

"I know we're all amiable and don't slag off outsiders, but if Bob Roberts approved it then I'll cross it off my shopping list......."

Just picked up on the above comment.

What's this all about then?

Has our poster "Carp Angler" got a personal issue with me?

If you have a problem, mate, let's get it out in the open. If not, do us all a favour and stop posting defamatory slurs while hiding behind a pseudonym and remaining invisible in your profile.

Any tosser can do that...

Bob, quite right! Lets keep everything light and friendly. Surely the whole point of these forums is to help enlighten the inexperienced and to share our experiences of this lovely pastime of fishing. We may disagree with certain things, but I would hope that we are all mates. Life is too short for anything else ! Lets hope that these pages don't end up like certain pages of the angling press. I think we owe it to Graham. Don't you all ?

Perhaps it would have been better if Alastair had started his own topic instead of dragging one back from three years ago.

Not a criticism Alastair, just a comment.

As far as the rods go,I'm happy with my Harrisons.

John, I'm lost on that one . Having only become aware of Fishing Magic in the last few days (I joined last week) then I can only assume that I've been misunderstood.

Terry Eustace used to make some great rods.
My brother has had one of his pike rods for around 25 years now and the whippings and rings are as good as the day he bought it. It's not been hung up in the garage either!

For anyone who likes quivertipping at night those Enterprise Tackle betalite fittings are the business.

As for the Daiwa Barbel rod, I've not ever used one but Graham reviewed this rod some time ago and gave it his stamp of approval.
If they're anything like the powermesh avon rod then I can see why. Nice bit of kit.

Carp Angler used to be a regular on this site and contributed a lot to the forum and to the site in general.
I really don't know why he chose to have a dig at Bob Roberts or the rod.
If you're reading this Carp Angler maybe you could reply to Bob as requested.

Partially on topic check out the Drennan Rod Top Isotopes.

I am a big fan of the Enterprise one's but the Drennan one's are stunning and at a reasonable price.

At least I know who Bob Roberts is. He wrote a great book called The Complete Book of Legering and catches some good fish. Who the f*** is Carp Angler. Come on own up. I find the sight rings on rods extremely anoying. I have taken them off all of mine. Like Andy I like the Enterprise adaptors. I have not tried the Drennan ones yet but I am sure they will be very good, as all Drennan products are.

Dave, Carp Angler is a very helpful and respected member of this forum. Also known as Big Rick. Rik as contributed many times and has also written many articles for FM. Rik has been very busy of late hence we have not seen him as much as usual. I am sure if he sees this thread he will reply in his normal manner.

so for the time being can you get of his back.

Sorry Stuart, I didn't realise they were both the same person. I have enjoyed reading Big Rik's contributions in the past. It just sounded like he was getting a bit too personal about Bob. I probably got it wrong.

LOL, this thread is 3 years old, old Carpy has had ago on the Dove with my Diawa Barbel Specialist, hitting chub on the pin at 60 yards and missing countless barbel bites-proper ones at that in the last year or so.His only complaint that it locked up early.....from a carp guy used to 3lb+ ?300 rods lol. I still love my Diawa, and on Mon night I'm gonna bend it!

I don't know Rik personally but any time he has had a problem with a post, product or person he has answered it in his own 'unique' way. He doesn't post and hide watching the replys like a troll in the old bulletin boards used to do.

As Stuart J says he hasn't been on the site very often lately. I will also say that he has contributed more to the site than most and is a constant sourse of knowledge and will help anyone who is interested enough to ask but he won't hand everything on a plate. Hope he comes back soon even if it's just to clear up this thread as it's a little unfair for anyone to speculate on what he meant......and it was 3 years ago, people change their opinion every day.
