I have had some success recently fishing for carp with pellet smeared with a bit of bechalan ( that shrimp paste they use in chinese restaurants to make prawn crackers).

This has boosted my carp fishing, I think mainly due to its very salty taste.

Do Barbel have the same passion for salt that carp have, I was thinking of trying halibut pellets smeared with bechalan for some river barbel this weekend and wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Make some bechalan pellets?

Surely, adding bechalan paste to halibut pellets would just detract from the halibut attraction...............so what would be the point?

Belachan is excellent when grated and made up into a paste with crushed pellets. I had many barbel from the river wye early on in the season using the 'fresh fish' boilies from dynamite coated in a golf ball sized lump of belachan paste.

Very smelly stuff, 'er in doors will not be best pleased if you put it in the fridge!!
