Dave Townsend at Blagdon Fishing Lodge

A great start!

The day was advertised to start at 10am but Dave and Carrie arrived at Blagdon fishing lodge nice and early to set up. John Harris from Bristol Water Fisheries was on hand initially to see if there was anything needed. From 9.30 am people started to come in with hoards of lovely fishing tackle! With not even time for a cup of tea, Dave set to work looking and valuing it all. There were soon several people waiting to see Dave, so Carrie got them all a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. People were happy to wait, talking to each other and sharing their stories as well as enjoying the beautiful scenery of Blagdon fishing lake. One guy even saw someone he had not seen for 40 years and had a good old catch up which was lovely to see!

Purchases

There was a lot of interesting tackle, some of which we bought and some we just valued. There were lots of Hardy, Sage, and Orvis rods as well as some older cane rods. One of the highlights of the day was a 3.5″ MKII Salmon Perfect with line guard, one of the rarer sizes and in excellent condition too!

Of other interest were some nice Orvis wooden landing nets, including a lovely pear-shaped model. Other narrow drum Perfects, a lovely Orvis reel in its original wooden box. Abu Multipliers in their black and brown cases, System II reels in original boxes, good old Hardy Marquis in cases, Battenkill reels in cases, 2 x Allcock Aerials… The list goes on… And a very nice pair of Polaroid sunglasses! One lovely man came in with a beautiful brass-faced salmon Perfect with waisted pillars. A stunning reel, unfortunately, it wasn’t for sale on this occasion!

Future valuation days

Lots of people felt this was a worthwhile trip for them to make. One, even thought it sounded too good to be true when seeing the advert on Facebook but was extremely pleased to find that it wasn’t and walked away happy with cash in his hand for the goods he had brought along.

This is the second valuation day we have held and have two more planned already so watch this space for more information!
