i've fished the fossdyke at torksey a couple of times but for some reason both times it's been a howling gale, freezing cold, torrential sleet blowing horizontal pig of a day and i just picked up a couple of small perch and skimmers.

Fred The marina at Burton Waters is a new area, created recently as a berth for high priced modern home owners. Your members would do far better to fish in the Fossdyke which runs past the marina. During this past Winter many fish in the high double range have been caught. Give Burton Marina another five years and we may see a worthwhile new venue.

Ive recently caught a 7lb 4oz Zander out of Burton waters Marina on a dead bait Sprat. The first Zander I’ve ever caught. About 8 years ago I thought I saw one in the Foss Dyke canal follow my spinner, but was not sure and not many people have herd of catching Zander in Lincolnshire. But now I have proof.

I picked up some Sprats from Tesco because that’s all they had. I think Zander like small baits and proberly the reason I caught one I’ve also had a few small Jacks, and 13lb pike a few years ago but havnt dishes it for a while. one of my neighbers says he’s had a 26lb pike. There’s also some decent perch. And carp in the summer time. My other neighbour hooked a mirror carp about 10lb but didn’t have the right tackle and it snapped him off. But that Zander fought hard I thought it was a double figure pike. A real strong solid fish. I think the marina is deeper than the canal and I’ve read that Zander like deeper water so I’m hoping I naught catch a few more.
Regards Tom

I have often wondered why I had never heard of a zander in The Witham. As the Fos joins the Trent and The Witham I now know they must have got there.
