They say that there is nothing like a quiet day fishing . . . and looking at those photos, that fishing is nothing like a quiet pastime.
Personally, I'd have packed up and found somewhere else to fish rather than tolerate that sort of behaviour. If it is a club water then I'd be asking the committee to have a word with the owner as these "sports" are mutually exclusive, IMO.
Failing agreeable resolution then I'd be looking for a different club where excusive rights are available for rented locations.
I rely on public transport, so not really an option for me, the buses only run every two hours to this spot so once there, that's it. I could have packed up a bit earlier, caught the 1.58 back but by the time I had set up, might as well stuck it out. I was aware of the problem through previous visit but thought might be OK on a Friday. I now know to just forget it until maybe later as a winter venue. I can live with that but as an issue for the club and its members in general, I don't know but, my guess is they are not bothered as no ones seems to fish it. They have lakes and these rivers are not much of a concern to them or their members who probably hardly ever fish there. I don't think they are a rich club, about 400 members as far as i know.
I have done a bit of looking up, seems the club have the rights on the right bank going upstream from where I am which is just a small fields worth below a bridge on the left bank. and the campsite is on the left bank above the bridge, so I am assuming different farmers each side of the river, maybe three farmers in all, one who owns this small field , another above the bridge who has leased the rights on the right bank, and one who owns the camping site but has not leased the fishing rights. To make it more complicated I think this stretch is only affiliated to this club from another club.
Should I get involved? not what I envisaged when on a whim I paid my concessionary £40 to be honest and being a lifelong non club member who used to amble along to free stretches and the odd commercial or day ticket, I think I might go back to that when this fee runs out on 31st March next year.
It seemed an easier way of life.
