For anyone else interested on E-bay there is one of Chris Yates' old Avocet rods for sale.

Current bid is a little over £400 but will probably top the grand . . . . .

Chris Yates Avocet | eBay

I love the description where it says, "The overall condition of the rod is very good, no sets, nice and straight, nice tight ferrules and finish in good condition considering its past"

Yes, I do have an affection for them which is why I'm keeping an eye on this one . . . . .

Not for "silly money" though. . . . . .

I've no idea about cane rods Peter, but I would imagine if that provenance is correct the rod will sell for a lot of money, in fact it'll more than likely be removed due to being no longer for sale as a lot of these expensive items do.
Good luck if you do decide to go for it !:w :D.

Built-cane butt... nah.
Now, if it were the whole-cane butted beauty that's on a £500 buy-it-now...

...I still couldn't afford even the bag.

There are going to be two very happy new owners, I think. Try getting one built now for £500!

Hang it, I've only just realised how much I've always wanted one!

Never have understood why people would pay ridiculous amounts of money for some one elses hand me downs. How many people have owned this rod before Chris Yates.
What makes it so special, it as only a rod that as been used to catch fish.

Nice to hang on the wall in the study perhaps, but little interest in wielding something like this in anger.

Does it really make that much difference that Yates owned it?

It certainly will make a huge difference to the price.

;)

Yes, you are probably right regarding the price. However, functionally it is still the same as another identical model of similar condition.

Right now it is tracking at £520. What would be the expected asking price for a similar condition Avocet, but without the Yates history I wonder?

One in very good original condition would be around £400 t a guess.

I think this one will top the grand given its provenance . . . . . . .

Which, when you think about it, is utterly ridiculous. Some people really do have more money than sense. :eek:mg:

With my cynical head on I cant help wondering how many Avocets it will turn out that CY had. This might be the first of many ? :wh

Just me being me. I'm sure its all terribly good.
