I used to fish a stretch of the Kennet that had badly undercut banks. The banks were so undercut that pushing a rod rest in often resulted in “rattle, rattle, plink, plink”!!
On the way home from the pub one evening I saw a telescopic fishing pole with a broken top section left on a garden fence with a note saying that it was free to whoever wanted it.
I had a broken landing net pole and I cut the screw fitting and two inches of the top section. I trimmed the telescopic pole back to match the diameter and glued the section of landing net pole in with Araldite.
The resulting 4 meter landing net pole is very handy and still in regular use.
