i am going trolling for pike this weekend as the trout season is
over,,,i am off to ennel,in the midlands (ireland)this is a wild trout fishery which
contains a lot of small pike which are easily caught and some big ones that
are truly hard.....the rules of the lake say that u cannot dead or live bait
and u can troll using artifical lures only..
can any of u experienced pikers( eg..dermot)gimme any advice on what to
use..i have a mountain of lures, but i do not know what to do with them..i
trolled this lake all last year during the winter with nothing over 10....i
know they are there as they are caught during the warmer months, just to
finish i am not a novice at this game and have caught plenty of doubles from
the boat trolling(or as we say gattling) before..any help would be
appreciated..the lake varies from 10 feet to 173feet in the deepest
area,,,,,,,,,this lake has me stumped.... (it is a clear limestone water).......
regards,
denis..............

Denis, if the small fish vastly outnumber the big girls then trying to selectivly catch the bigger fish is always going to be difficult. I may well be teaching you to such the proverbial, but i would look in winter to deep water, but not 173ft! and use down riggers to keep the lures running deep, personally i would be looking to start in depths of 15-25ft first.
