I am still awaiting delivery of my Gudgeon rod from young Aknib but do like catching these delightful little fish. They are called Warford Barbel on my favourite venue because,anecdotally,the farmer who owns it thought he was buying barbel but was given gudgeon instead.

Size for size they put up a good fight; If they were comparable in size to a Barbel then they would be brilliant fighters :)

Here’s quite a nice Gudgeon from my local Barbel stream (it took a bait that was meant for a Barbel).

Delightful little fish! Dr Mark Everard ("Doctor Redfin"), is also a fan and devotee, and has published books and has broadcast podcasts etc on the subj of these lovely creatures!
